WNS, White Nose Syndrome, is a fungal disease that affects bats that hibernate in the North-Eastern United States. This fungus annoys hibernating bats and causes them to wake up earlier from hibernation. Sadly, if the bats wake up too early, their main food source, insects, are not yet available.  This causes the infected bats to starve to death. There have been over 6.7 million bat deaths already because of WNS since it was first discovered in 2006. Until we find a way to control the growth and spread of this fungus, it will continue to kill our bats.
